Have you thought about leaving a gift in your will to Age UK?

We've partnered with Free Wills Month so you have an opportunity to support Age UK and have a simple will written or updated for free. The March 2021 campaign is now finished. The next campaign opens on 1 October 2021.

What is Free Wills Month?

Free Wills Month allows national charities, including Age UK, the chance to offer their supporters aged 55 and over the opportunity to have a simple will written or updated free of charge by a participating solicitor.

An up-to-date will, written by a solicitor, is the best way to ensure your wishes are followed and your loved ones are looked after. You can also leave something special with a gift in your will to your chosen charities too.

From providing weekly friendship calls, to helping vulnerable older people access the vital advice and support they need – a gift in your will to Age UK could be a lifeline for the many thousands of older people who have no one else to turn to.

By taking part in this campaign, we hope you'll consider supporting Age UK with a gift in your will, although there is no obligation to do so.

Where is the campaign taking place?

Free Wills Month takes place every March and October. The locations for the next campaign will be available on 1 October 2021.

To take part in the October campaign, please register your interest and we’ll be in touch with what you need to know about Free Wills Month, how you can get ready for your appointment as well as first access to the details of participating solicitors firms in your area.

How do I take part?

  1. Register your interest to learn more and be the first to know where Free Wills Month is taking place in October 2021.
  2. From 1 October, visit the Free Wills Month website and type in your postcode to find out which solicitors are taking part in the campaign in your local area.
  3. Book an appointment directly with the solicitor during the campaign month.
  4. Consider including a gift to help older people most in need. Find out more about supporting the work of Age UK with a gift in your will.

It's worth noting that the numbers of appointments are limited, so we recommend you book your appointment with your chosen solicitor as soon as you can. Once all available appointments are booked the campaign will close – this may be before the end of the month. This campaign pays for simple wills. If the will is more complex and needs additional work, the solicitor may ask you to pay the balance yourself. It's best to check this when booking your appointment.

'Tim's calls make my week'

Keith is 99 years old, lives alone and is largely housebound. He never married and with no family or close friends nearby, he'd be lucky to receive three visitors in a year. Keith was put in contact with Age UK to help ease his loneliness and isolation. Through our telephone befriending service, we matched Keith with Tim, who’s in his twenties.

Tim calls Keith every week for a chat, and the two have formed a close friendship – despite their 70 year age gap. Keith says Tim's calls have made a huge difference to his life, telling us they 'don't just make my day, they make my entire year'.

Supporting older people like Keith through our befriending services wouldn't be possible without the generosity of people who leave Age UK a gift in their will.

When Age UK came into my life and I got the chance to have a weekly chat with a new friend, it really did make a big impact on me. I’ve got something to look forward to each week.
