Healthy Ageing Calendar 2023

Published on 22 December 2022 12:00 AM

Together with the Public Health Agency (PHA) and the Age Friendly Network NI, Age NI has launched its healthy ageing calendar for 2023, which is being distributed to over 50,000 older people across Northern Ireland.

The Age NI 2023 wellbeing calendar is packed with expert advice and information aimed at supporting older people to keep well. This year’s focus is on moving more to live more, emphasising the importance of physical activity for both physical and mental wellbeing.

The calendar, which is being distributed through the Age Friendly Network NI, independent pharmacies and Age NI services, includes tips on all aspect of later life from healthy eating to staying safe from scams, energy-saving advice and exercise ideas to keep older people strong and mobile.

Linda Robinson, Chief Executive of Age NI said, “The experience of the past couple of years has been very isolating for many older people, so it’s more important than ever to look after our health, stay active and strong, keep up health checks and remain connected to others.

“We have seen frailty accelerated by loneliness and isolation, with older people reducing their activities and social interactions with others. We are really keen for older people to know about the benefits of moving their body every day and being together with others – two powerful ingredients for feeling good.

“Sometimes the biggest barrier can be knowing where to turn in your local area. The Age Friendly Network has co-ordinators in every council area and there are brilliant Age Sector groups offering services and activities for older people right across Northern Ireland. Our 2023 calendar provides contact details for every part of the country, and we are encouraging older people to look them up and get in touch to find out what’s available nearby.

“Later life doesn’t come with a manual and sometimes we just need a reminder of some of the simple things we can do to look after ourselves. We have worked with partners and a team of experts, including older people, to bring healthy ageing advice and information all together in one handy place. We’re hoping that 2023 will be the year that older people can move more and live more again.”
