January is a good time to review your life, especially work, personal finances as well as health and wellbeing, and start planning what you want for the future.

More than 50% of us haven’t thought much about our hopes or ambitions for life after 60, but it is known that a high sense of control over this transitory period often results in a better quality of later life.

Therefore, Age Cymru and Business in the Community Cymru (BITC Cymru) have joined forces to provide a series of free, one-hour webinars to help people start planning for a positive later life.

The webinars provide a specific overview of the four keys areas of work, finance, health and wellbeing, and work-life balance to help people feel more confident and better informed in shaping their later life.

The webinars are aimed at the over 50s whether they are in employment or actively seeking employment and form part of the Age at Work programme, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

Age at Work Programme Manager, Jill Salter, says “The webinars offer people over 50s an opportunity to reflect on their current circumstances and consider what they want out of their later life.  They help equip people with the confidence and knowledge to make plans and informed choices for a positive future. For example, they’ve helped people identify ‘lost’ pension pots, understand how much income they may need for retirement, and encourage them to take appropriate action.”

Age Cymru’s chief executive Victoria Lloyd says “The Age at Work programme provides older people with an opportunity to prepare for the future they want in their later life. The webinars are designed to help people think about several key issues that relate to one another such as work-life balance, caring responsibilities, and health and well-being. Hopefully, once people have attended the webinars, they will become better equipped to develop a more financially secure future and a life that better suits their personal circumstances.”

The next programme of webinars runs on a monthly basis from January.  For more information or to register visit www.agecymru.org.uk/ageatwork or call Jill Salter on 07793 443893.

Spotlight on employment and older people

Age Cymru is hosting an in-person event ‘A spotlight on employment and older people’ at the Senedd buildings on 31 January 2023.

The event will explore how employers in Wales are creating workplaces where older workers can thrive, and the benefits that a mixed aged workforce can bring to organisations. It will also explore some of the barriers that older people face when seeking and staying in employment. Amongst the presentations, the Minister for Economy Vaughan Gething MS will focus on the Welsh Government’s priorities for older people and employment.

For more information about the event call Dr Ceri Cryer on 029 2043 1555 or email ceri.cryer@agecymru.org.uk.
