Gwanwyn Festival 2023: Celebrating the creativity inspired by nature in older age

Filling the windows of Wales with nature inspired artwork

Age Cymru’s Gwanwyn Festival 2023 is this year celebrating the creativity of nature, and the nature of creativity in older age.

The last few years have helped many of us to appreciate the natural world around us as we did our best to cope with the challenges of the pandemic by visiting our parks, mountains, and coastlines.  It is also widely recognised that being in and around nature can have a positive impact on our physical and mental wellbeing.

So, the charity wants to celebrate how nature inspires creativity across all areas of our lives, from garden design to geranium growing, and from cooking our own grown food, to creating art from nature’s products, and everything in between!

Gwanwyn Festival Co-ordinator Kelly Barr says “We want to fill the windows of Wales with nature, just like we did with messages of support for the health service during the pandemic.  Of course, we’d love to see all sorts of windows filled with nature-inspired artwork, but people may also have other ways of reflecting how nature has inspired them.

“Some may wish to express their creativity by decorating their garden sheds, designing their gardens or allotments, or producing other works of art. In fact, we’d love to see and hear about anything that provides a platform for people to express and share their creativity with their community.”
