Scotland’s population is ageing and so is its workforce, yet many businesses feel they are not fully prepared to make the most of these social, demographic changes.

We work with organisations and research partners to identify barriers to age inclusion and ways to make intergenerational workplaces, work.

A third of our workforce in Scotland is now over 50 and there are twice as many people aged 65 years and over in employment today compared with 10 years ago, and this number will continue to rise.  Yet, when asked by the Chartered Management Institute, only 4 in 10 employers were largely open to hiring people aged between 50 and 64.

Many employers are struggling to adapt to the changing demographics of our workforce. Only 1 in 10 say they have discussed retirement plans with workers who plan to retire in the next five years, meaning they are at risk of losing not just employees but valuable skills and knowledge. Ageism also remains an issue and is the most widespread discrimination in the UK.

Age Inclusive Workplaces exists to help organisations and older workers adapt and thrive.

Through our extensive programme of workshops and opportunities we have delivered training to over 17,000 people, from 270 organisations and 98% of attendees would recommend our work to a colleague.

We think that’s really something to be proud of.
