Page Turners is not just a book club, it’s a reason to connect through a shared literary experience.

The books you read will literally be in your hands! Every month we’ll email you a shortlist of books to vote on. Your nominated bookworm – this could be a grandparent, another relative, or a friend – and yourself will then have the opportunity to vote for your favourite.

You’ll also get access to our dedicated Facebook group where you can spark a conversation about your favourite (and least favourite!) books with other Page Turners.

Explore new genres and authors

We select books for you to vote from each month on a chosen theme. This might be seasonal or inspired by a particular topic.

Right now, our Page Turners are snuggled up under warm blankets and enjoying Clare Pooley’s bestseller, The Authenticity Project.

Julian Jessop, tired of hiding the deep loneliness he feels, begins The Authenticity Project - a small green notebook containing the truth about his life. After leaving his notebook in his friendly neighbourhood café, he never expects Monica, the café's owner, to find it and track him down, or for her and others to be inspired to write their own truths.

The Authenticity Project is properly heartwarming stuff, perfect for this chilly time of year. All the characters are relatable in different ways, but I loved Julian's brutal, witty honesty, and the way his writing inspires other people to share their stories too. We all need a café like Monica's, and a community like the one that develops there.

More information

Can I/we choose what book we get?

We select the books you get to vote on every month. From there, the book with the highest number of votes is selected – everyone gets the same book. Even if your preferred option doesn’t win, we think you’ll love them all – and it’s a great opportunity to explore something you might not otherwise have tried.

What kind of books will I/we receive?

We select books for you to vote from each month on a chosen theme. This might be seasonal, or inspired by a particular topic, new release, or author. As this is a new service, we’ll start listing the winning books here each month when we’ve sent them out, so you can see what other Page Turners have enjoyed.

When will my book arrive?

The books will arrive in the middle of each month. If you think your monthly book should’ve arrived by now, but it hasn’t, please contact us at pageturners@ageuk.org.uk.

If your first payment is made after the 22nd, you will not be eligible to receive the book that is due to be delivered by the middle of the following month. You will receive your first book in the middle of the month after that one, and you will be able to vote on it.

What does my book subscription payment go towards?

By joining Page Turners, you're helping to support older people around the UK and in your community through Age UK's wide range of vital services, such as our Telephone Friendship Services, Advice Line , as well as campaigning and research.

Your payment will also help cover the cost of the book and maintaining Page Turners, which is up to £7.99 per single subscription every month. All payments above this could help to support older people through Age UK’s vital services.
