Better Later Lives

Better Later LivesFind out how the Better Later Lives programme at Age UK provides information, advice and support to people experiencing life events and supports them to achieve their longer term goals.

What is Better Later Lives?

Our Better Later Lives programme is delivered through holistic, person-centred sessions aimed at people who are generally of State Pension Age or older. The programme specifically targets people who are experiencing a significant life event, or coping with a life change, by providing one-on-one sessions aimed at supporting the person to resolve their situation and helping them to achieve what it is that matters to them. This could be a transition moment like retiring from work, which is all about making the most of the years ahead. Likewise it could be a dementia diagnosis where it is crucial to prepare to ensure the rocky road ahead is more manageable.

The programme will deliver support on a range of issues faced by older people. The service will be delivered primarily through face-to-face contact including home visiting.

Following an initial one to one session, aimed at understanding the situation and support being provided to help understand options and how to take action in managing the situation, the adviser delivering the service would work with the older person to help them identify what they would like to achieve following the transition point in their lives.

Better Later Lives is delivered by four Age UK local sites across England and Wales, running from October 2018 to September 2019.
