Age UK Society Lotteries

The Charity

Age UK (charity no. 1128267) wholly owns three subsidiary companies, each of which promotes a society lottery to raise funds to support different areas of Age UK’s work.

Age UK previously operated its Society Lottery Draws in monthly rotation against three specific areas of Age UK’s work these are: 

Age UK Information and Advice Lottery CIC (Registered Company No.11335248, Account no: 52373), provides funding for information, advice and related services provided by Age UK and local Age UKs for older people in the UK.

Age UK Local Programmes Lottery CIC (Registered Company No.11335613, Account No: 52413), provides funding for local programmes to assist older people, via the work of local Age UKs.

Age UK Education and Research Lottery CIC (Registered Company No.11372685, Account No. 52417) provides funding for research activities that advance education in relation to issues affecting older people in the UK.

The % of proceeds raised and declared as profit from each of the society lotteries promoted in 2021 by each of the three subsidiaries and the likelihood of winning a prize, can be found below.

Lottery Schemes

All three subsidiaries promoted society lottery draws in two separately branded, society lottery schemes:

  • Age UK Weekly Lottery; and
  • Age UK Tuesday Treat.

Age UK Local Programmes Lottery CIC additionally promoted society lottery draws in a separately branded, society lottery scheme, referred to as:

  • Age UK Raffle.

All proceeds from the Age UK Lottery schemes go to the relevant Promoter and all profits are donated to Age UK.

Age UK Weekly Lottery

All society lottery draws were promoted by one of the subsidiary companies in accordance with the Lottery Draw Calendar.

In 2021:

  • Age UK Local Programmes Lottery CIC raised £3,527,522.00 from ticket sales, with 8% spent on prizes; 41% spent on expenses; and 51% - £1,746,740.91 being used to fund Age UK Local Programmes*; The likelihood of winning a prize was, on average, 1 in 169.
  • Age UK Education and Research Lottery CIC raised £3,479,702.00 from ticket sales, with 7% spent on prizes; 35% spent on expenses; and 58% - £2,027,855.14 being used to fund Age UK Education and Research*; The likelihood of winning a prize was, on average, 1 in 183 and
  • Age UK Information and Advice Lottery CIC raised £2,584,486.00 from ticket sales, with 14% spent on prizes; 40% spent on expenses; and 46% - £1,282,089.06 being used to fund Age UK Information and Advice*;
  • The likelihood of winning a prize was, on average, 1 in 185.

Age UK Tuesday Treat

All society lottery draws in 2021 were promoted by one of the subsidiary companies in accordance with the Tuesday Treat Draw Calendar.

In 2021:

  • Age UK Local Programmes Lottery CIC raised £173,891.00 from ticket sales, with 36% spent on prizes; 9% spent on expenses; and 58% - £101,081.00, being used to fund Age UK Local Programmes*;

The likelihood of winning a prize was, on average 1 in 9.

  • Age UK Education and Research Lottery CIC raised £152,029.00 from ticket sales, with 34% spent on prizes; 7% spent on expenses; and 58% - £88,909.0 being used to fund Age UK Education and Research*;The likelihood of winning a prize was, on average 1 in 8
  • Age UK Information and Advice Lottery CIC raised £175,301.00 from ticket sales, with 33% spent on prizes; 8% spent on expenses; and 59% - £102,491.00, being used to fund Age UK Information and Advice*; and
  • The likelihood of winning a prize was, on average, 1 in 9.

Age UK Raffle

In 2021, Age UK Local Programmes Lottery CIC raised £256,439.00 from ticket sales, with 9% spent on prizes; 53% spent on expenses; and 38% - £97,834.10, being used to fund Age UK Local Programmes*.

The likelihood of winning a prize was, on average, 1 in 512.

*Based on Lottery Submissions made to the Gambling Commission during the 2021 calendar year (% have been rounded).
