Pollene and Clare

Donate now to help people like Pollene

Pollene's local Age UK have brightened her week through their befriending services. That's only possible with your support.

Pollene, 80, worked all her life as a nurse, but now has a number of health conditions which make her unable to leave her bed.

She has plenty of visits from carers, but they never usually have enough time to talk. She missed having meaningful company, conversation and, above all, friendship.

Through Age UK Wandsworth, Pollene was matched with Claire, a befriender who has been visiting her for over 3 years. During visits, they sing together, listen to music and Claire reads the newspaper to Pollene. Claire recently wrote down Pollene’s life history and created a scrapbook for her.

Visits from Claire are the highlight of Pollene's week, and their time together is "better than medicine".
