Donate to help people like Alan
Alan's local Age UK helped bring him in from the cold. That's only possible with your support.
When the weather got cold, he rarely went out as it made his breathing difficulties worse. After the death of his last remaining close friend, Alan had become very depressed and lonely.
He told us that sometimes he just wished he would die.
Age UK Merton helped Alan get extra practical and financial support to make life a bit easier. He was also matched with a local befriender, who visits him every week for a cuppa and a chat. They've formed a firm friendship.
Alan's started coming to Age UK Merton's 'boys club' at the activity centre, where he chats to other men and plays dominoes. He recently went with the group on a day trip to Portsmouth, which he really enjoyed. While Alan's still facing challenges, he is socialising, getting out of the house and knows that he has somewhere to turn if he needs help.
