Our trustees are essential to our success as a charity. As a trustee, you'll set our direction and hold staff to account, making sure we're always doing the best we possibly can for older people in the UK.

Why become an Age UK trustee?

If you become an Age UK trustee you'll be guiding a charity that's focused on helping more of the older people who need us the most. Older people who are lonely, in poverty, or dealing with long-term health conditions without the care they desperately need. A charity that, working alongside our national and local partners, supports over seven million people every year; a charity that campaigns for a society that's truly fair for older people; and a charity that works in over 30 developing countries through its subsidiary Age International.

You'll join a trustee team with a vast amount of personal and professional experience across a whole range of fields, including charity, business, government, finance and education. You’ll be warmly welcomed, participate fully in the governance of our charity and all that entails, and supported to develop your skills.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you no matter your professional experience, or whether you're an experienced trustee or have never been one. It's just important that you're passionate about creating a fair and equal society for older people and can embody our values - 'we are focused', 'we act together' and 'we are bold'. We'll also look for particular skills and experience when we advertise specific roles.

We're actively looking to improve the diversity of our Board of Trustees, so we'd especially like to hear from people from diverse backgrounds.

Time commitment

There are eight trustee meetings a year - six Board meetings and two away days.

Your initial trustee commitment would be two years. At the end of two years, you and the Chair of the Board could agree to you continuing for another three years. Following this you could, subject to the Chair's agreement, choose to continue for another three years. Eight years is the maximum time you can act as a Trustee.
